We are honored to host Semenawa Research Meeting (SRM) for the first time at our studio. Stories of two bottoms were shared... their start, their growth, their self-realizations and how semenawa was different/similar between the two of them.
In sharing their interpretations of the spirit of semenawa in an educational, discussion and demo format, we hope to inspire, motivate and open the possibilities of those drawn to rope.
SRM is inspired by Naka sensei’s semenawa study group in Tokyo and held in the US with his blessing.

A weekend dedicated to studying the most fundamental tie in the Japanese rope bondage style: hands tied behind the back. @riggerodys and @paige_sunshine26 will spend two whole days covering this and other building blocks for Naka style shibari with basic floor and partial suspension ties.
With the goal of promoting consistency and progression in skills, tickets were first to attendees of the previous weekend intensive "The Prep" and will go out to the public June 15. (That's tomorrow!)

A wonderfully expressive image from our opening event! A truly special evening took place and we are thrilled with how well it went. 2 contrasting performances from @kinbakuartistmiki and @himbo_hallow followed by @riggerodys and @violet.rainstorms both accompanied by the incredibly talented @rakudoan.
It was amazing to feel we had finally opened our space up to the community and we now have a safe space to practice, learn, create and enjoy, right here in the DMV.

LATEST UPDATE: Construction is almost done!
We are really excited to open our doors soon formally!
What to expect for upcoming events:
Attendees will be vetted prior to ticketed entry. There is no requirement for rope experience. The only requirements are those who espouse and will adhere to these values:
- Respect of oneself and to others
- Common courtesy and privacy
- Ethical intention and behavior
- Respect to the surrounding neighbors of building that the space belongs to
- Non-judgement
- Open-minded
- Physical and emotional safety and support
All of these values are universal regardless of what groups you identify as.
A code of conduct, policies, and further information on the venue and event offerings will become available as the details are being worked out. Classes and events/performances aim to nurture these aspects of rope:
- Exploring and developing your own connection to rope and to your partner
- Communication skills inside and outside of tying
- Discovering and experimenting with different styles of rope bondage
- Merging of soft skills with hard/technical skills
At this point, much work remains to be done, and we are going to utilize crowdfunding, donations, and small loans to fund the building and maintenanxe of this space. Startup costs include licensing, insurance, supplies, rent, and utilities.
Should you feel inspired to support our space, described above, please donate at: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=FFBJDGQZREHJY

Some really important days where we field tested our longest beams and finally hoisted them up with friends who believe in our vision.
Many of our supplies came in at the same time, and we were close to make the studio a comfortable place to gather and share.
So much appreciation to the extra help from Quiet_Resolve (fet), loniangel (fet), @riggerodys, justin_c_p (fet) and anonymous person!

Measuring, glueing, screwing and planing... this is how we're spending our free time.

The day our specialty wood was delivered. Exciting yet also dealing with what mother nature decided to dump on us a few days ago. We spent the afternoon getting these heavy beams indoors. That's one way to warm up!

An idea doesn't materialize unto itself. It takes preparation and planning. Here we are with the space cleared out before the transformation begins, with coils of rope as our reminder and inspiration.

Dear friends,
It is with great pleasure that we formally announce the opening of a rope dedicated space, right here in the DC Metro region. For many years, as our love for rope bondage grew, so did the desire to have a dedicated local space to grow in, to share and be apart of, to learn and teach, to experience and welcome new friends, to expand our community and have a safe haven that felt like home. Though this dream lived in the far reaches of our minds, it slowly began to take a very real form. And so began the journey of building Bound Lark Rope Studio. While we are still in the early stages of development and planning, our hope is to create a space that strives for personal growth, self reflection and meaningful experiences.
Please feel free to follow along with us, ask questions, be curious and sign up as we announce future events. We can’t wait to show you what we have built!
